I can't say it been easy to drive from our temporary house in Lafayette to Sunshine. We continue to sift through the rubble and find little pieces of things that we held near and dear to our hearts. The community is trying to hold together. We have had pot luck dinners. One of our neighbors passed away and the family had a gathering in his honor. Most of the neighbor hood was there. Tim and Linda held a fund raiser for the fire department. It was a "Corn-hole" tournament and was a lot of fun. As the dust settles, we find that 160 homes were destroyed by the fire. That has put a big bite in the tax base. The fire department used the tax base most of it's income. There are two fire trucks that are not paid for and financial resources need to be found. We will rebuild.
There will not be a Halloween party this year. We are hoping the community will be ready next year.

David, it's good to hear from you. I'm so sorry that your community is having to deal with this, the recovery is long, but yours is a strong community made up of people who really care about each other. My prayer is that when this is all done, the bond you all have will be even stronger, and in that, you will one day look back at this time of turmoil, and feel that you've come through it for a reason you can all see, and you'll feel blessed for coming through it better on the other side. My heart is with your community, may God bless you all.
You continue to be in my thoughts dear friend. I know this has been a difficult time for your family and the community. (Hugs)Indigo

I'm late commenting on this post, David, but I follow your more frequent updates on Facebook. A long, hard road lies ahead, but you'll all come out the stronger for it. My sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased.
The community will arise again from the ashes, like a brilliant Phoenix - better than before.
I did not know about the fire. I'm so sorry and hope the community can rebuild.
